Description

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is seeking innovative improvements of mature product and material technologies that address increased kinematic performance and containment through reduction of mass, while maintaining or increasing performance. To meet this need, Valley Tech Systems (VTS) has developed, through the MDA SBIR program, a solid, high-fidelity prototype Extinguishable Divert and Attitude Control System (XDACS) that incorporates new VTS technologies featuring enhanced affordability, performance, operation time and propellant energy management. During this Phase II, VTS is proposing continued development and maturation of our XDACS prototype through further maturation of the Low-Level ACS (LLACS) Thruster which will be integrated with the high-fidelity XDACS prototype and a fully populated ACS and Divert thruster suite. Altitude hot fire testing will be demonstrated over a representative long duration 1000+ sec multiple solid propellant extinguishment and re-ignition pulse duty cycle, using VTS solid propellant extinguishment and re-ignition technology. A flight trajectory simulation will also be conducted to assist in developing hot fire and future MDA flight experiment thrust duty cycle requirements. The culmination of these activities will mature the VTS extinguishment and re-ignition technologies to a goal of TRL-6 at the conclusion of the Phase II effort.
