Description

There is no single clinical simulation system on the market today that can replicate all the clinical tasks required for proficiency for Role 1 providers specifically for female trauma training. Clinical training centers use a variety of different instructional systems including manikins and virtual reality systems. Many of these systems were commercially produced using proprietary technology, limiting the ability for the systems to interact with other clinical simulations. A solution is an open architecture that enables interoperability between dissimilar medical simulation systems known as the Joint Emergency Trauma System (JETS). The JETS architecture uses High Level Architecture (HLA), an IEEE standard designed to enable interoperability among distributed simulation systems. JETS defines a standard for data communication in its Federation Object Model (FOM), allowing all systems that adhere to the JETS standard to communicate with each other while protecting proprietary information. A JETS Toolkit Suite is being developed to improve vendor access to the standard, including providing an API using the GraphQL standard. The black box nature of the architecture allows any system to be interchangeable with another system, and allows users to customize the fidelity of the simulation as needed.
