Description
This Phase 2 project will further develop and scale a manufacturing process for the production of 5-25 kilogram quantities of encapsulated HI3O8 with a particle size of approximately 2 m and other sizes as desired by the sponsor. This project addresses the need to develop manufacturing processes and build a production capability for the manufacture of HI3O8 a halogen-containing chemical reagent for use in biocidal thermite mixtures. Our encapsulant is a polymer that acts as a barrier to water absorption by the HI3O8 particles. Encapsulated HI3O8 provides superior handling in processing and formulation steps for thermites and provides long term stability to thermite formulations. The project will produce 5-20 kilograms of encapsulated HI3O8 and deliver it for the fabrication of test articles and performance testing. In addition, a commercialization strategy for the product will be developed.
