Description

The Switch Reluctance Machine (SRM) is known to be subject to inherent excessive vibration and acoustic noise. A closed-loop control technique was developed in the Phase I to eliminate torque harmonics produced by a generic SRM. To provide vibratory feedback, a piezoelectric-based sensor is incorporated into an SRM drive system to sense the torque harmonics in real time. The control system has been proven to be effective in simulation and implementation on a 15kW testbed. In this phase II proposal, the research effort will focus on further develop the controller for a 100kW SRM and integration of the controller onto the targeted 100kW SRM. The control algorithm is scalable to different configuration and power level of most SRMs. Therefore, the control algorithm will be calibrated and the controller hardware will be up-scaled in order to drive the target 100kW SRM. Furthermore, a production level controller that has the capabilities of operation at extreme temperature, water-proof, EMI-immune, and CAN interface to meet the Army requirements will be developed and fit in the existing vehicle system and survive harsh environments. Both simulation and hardware results of the drive system will be presented during and upon the completion of Phase II.
