Description
The established methodology for fatigue testing rotorcraft dynamic components is time consuming and expensive. Multiple, unique, custom designed test fixtures are required. In order to reduce the time and expense of testing rotorcraft hubs and shafts a modular, multi-platform, easily reconfigurable test fixture is desired. This new test system should also be capable of greater load cycles application rates to reduce testing time.

Dayton T Brown, Inc. (DTB), a leader in aircraft system engineering and testing services, has developed a comprehensive solution that will meet these requirements. DTBs solution will be easily reconfigurable in order to test rotor hubs and shafts from many different rotor configurations. The system will also be capable of applying loads at increased rates to reduce test times. The baseline configuration utilizes a movable reconfigurable platform to mount the test items and apply the test loads in an accelerated fashion.

Benefits of this system would be a reduction in test time and costs for both government and commercial rotorcraft manufacturers. Especially with the numerous UAV rotorcraft platforms being developed, the reduction of costs in this area will speed time to market for innovative rotorcraft of the future.
