Description

The Hardware Open Systems Technologies (HOST) standard exists to reduce the dependency of system implementations on the details of specific hardware choices, abstracting away these details behind a structured set of logical architecture and interfaces. Successfully configuring of a HOST chassis can be a complex task, requiring many decisions on logical configuration, hardware, interfaces, power systems, and physical layout, the result of which must satisfy many complex constraints. The target system supply sufficient hardware resources such as network/communications, graphics, storage, etc. necessary to execute the application modules required. It must also obey power, thermal and performance requirements of the system, and be cost/performance optimal to meet competitive pressures. We propose to develop a model-based systems engineering tool integration tool to assist the integrator in the development and configuration of HOST conformant systems. The tool will support high-level design capture of the system in a single, consistent model, with automated capabilities for analyzing and simulating performance, physical properties (power, thermal, etc) and synthesis to automate configuration of the target system. Design space exploration tools will assist in selecting the optimal set of HOST conformant components for the target system. Prototyping and stakeholder interaction are leveraged to guide feasibility and market alignment.
