Description
This Phase 1 SBIR program will result in a proof of concept the Prosthetic Smart Auto-Alignment Tool or ProSAT, which addresses the need to facilitate rapid, accurate, controllable adjustment of the physical alignment of the prosthesis. We are proposing a novel approach to the problem by creating a hybrid sensor and smart tool system that is nearly universally applicable to existing modular prostheses. The ProSAT consists of two components that work together, the embedded alignment diagnosis component, and the smart alignment power tool. This hybrid architecture achieves many of the goals of creating an auto-aligning prosthetic component while having several distinct advantages. Foremost, it simplifies the component that the patient must carry within the prosthesis, minimizing weight, volume, potential noise and cost. The patient still receives the benefit of on demand assessment and auto-diagnosis of alignment through a smartphone app, and coupled with the smart alignment power tool also controlled by the same smartphone app.
