Description
The rapid increase in the number and capabilities of consumer drones makes it increasingly likely that small UAV, from multi-rotor platforms to fixed wing aircrafts, may soon become the cause of some unfortunate accidents (e.g. collision with a passenger aircraft), and/or may be used in planned attacks against high-value targets. The Small Drone Defeat System (SD2S) that Sarcos proposes to develop, test and demonstrate exploits the fact that high strength nets rapidly deployed by high performance transport UAVs offer a very effective way to disable multi-rotor and fixed wing consumer UAVs in addition to having a multitude of additional interesting features including the ability to: (i) capture both low flying and high flying targets; (ii) be easily be scaled up by adding more systems to protect large areas; (iii) protect a very large volume in a short time. It is anticipated that the S2DS system will rapidly find applications in protecting commercial, as well as DoD and other Government assets and facilities, such as airports, power plants, stadiums, and others.
