Description

Prime Solutions Group, Inc (PSG) has an emerging line of business in power and energy with existing Big Data and is proposing tools, techniques, algorithms. Prime Solutions Group propose in this Big Data to support answers to utility operations research questions of existing and future system architecture control. The result is expected to demonstrate new Big Data analysis techniques leveraging modern graph computing information technology. Prime Solutions Group’s Big Data is composed of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) data from a utility with 4 million meters resulting in 8 x109 records. Using data from a collaborating utility, our objective is to demonstrate how modern graph computing and systems thinking can be applied to Big Data in order to answer specific customer questions. In Phase 1, Prime Solutions Group add Big Data to a current power & energy simulation use case consisting of an executable graph model of architectures for a decentralized control infrastructure for distribution operations. This Use Case has demonstrated our ability to model uncertainty in simulating and controlling electric distribution circuits with distributed Photo Voltaic deployments (rooftop solar). Unique to Prime Solutions Group’s approach is the use of graph computing and graph databases with a technique we’ve developed called Modeling-Simulation Analysis Looping (MSAL). MSAL is an iterative methodology using graph-based models to define a mission environment, a mission model and mission threads. This advanced approach provides a novel and innovative means to address utility system control issues, particularly impacted by uncertainty in multiple dimensions through Big Data analysis. This project addresses how Big Data in the Power and Energy domain can be used to define future Smart Grid architectures. The project studies new System of Systems engineering techniques that apply graph computing specific to Big Data challenges in the Power & Energy domain. Results will demonstrate how Big Data can be used as a resource for developing future command and control, demand-response, and performance of future Smart Grids. Commercial Applications and Other Benefits: Prime Solutions Group’s approach addresses STTR commercialization in Power & Energy, logistics and command and control architectures. Benefits include the advancement of new tools and techniques in System of Systems engineering.
