QUANTTERA LLC — Department of Defense SBIR Phase I: DTRA152-001

QUANTTERA LLC — SBIR Phase I award from Department of Defense.

Phase I SBIR feasibility signal

  • Phase I awards fund proof-of-concept work. For capture teams, they mark early interest from Department of Defense in a technical approach.
  • Watch for Phase II follow-ons from the same firm/topic family — that conversion path is where budgets and transition pressure rise.
  • Obligated amount $150,000. Cross-check similar awards in the same agency and technology tags for going-rate context.
  • Topic code DTRA152-001 links this award to a solicitation family — search the same topic stem for incumbents and recompete timing.

Description

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) recognizes the need for efficient low power high bandwidth radiation hard optoelectronics for optical intereconnects; i.e. electrical-to-optical (E/O) conversion, optical-to-electrical (O/E) conversion, and low loss optical interconnects are imperative for photonic solutions to be competitive with conventional military RF components. For the development of integrated photonic devices due to materials limitations, silicon based photonic devices have not been utilized.Addressing this problem, QuantTera will develop an electrical-to-optical and optical-to-electrical high efficiency converter technology based on the heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) device which will be demonstrated to be radiation hard.
