Description
Technical Abstract (Limit to 200 words with no classified or proprietary information). The proposed Phase II project focuses on the development and demonstration of a re-configurable, real-time portable infrared hyperspectral imaging (HSI) system. The envisioned sensor will provide users with significantly enhanced, multi-mission oriented capabilities. The goal of the project is to enable the detection and identification of spectral phenomenology-oriented critical targets in complex, highly variable backgrounds.Relevant missions that may be addressed with the proposed sensor system include the detection of chemical and explosives threat materials; counter-IED and route-clearing missions; tagging, tracking and locating (TTL) applications; identify friend versus foe (IFF) detection; and other defense critical sensing missions. In particular, the Phase II effort will focus on development and demonstration of a reconfigurable HSI system with the following characteristics: (1) rapidly field-configurable operation; (2) real-time, on-the-move operation; (3) near real-time, automated target signature detection; (4) significantly reduced size, weight and power, and cost (SWaP-C) resource requirement compared to existing HSI systems; and (5) imaging operation with minimal support infrastructure.
