Description

The objective of this effort is to demonstrate a 600 Vdc to 28 Vdc, isolated bi-directional power converter that utilizes wide bandgap semiconductors and can operate across a range of military ground vehicles.  The proposed converter is based on a modular topology that contains a combination of GaN and SiC devices, provides at least 15 kW bi-directional power flow continuously, and satisfies the electrical requirements outlined in MIL-PRF-GCS600A, MIL-STD-1275F, and MIL-STD-461G.  It will support operation in a 71 degree C operating environment, possibly on a high-temperature liquid cooling loop such as that found in a military vehicle environment.  Further, its controller will support fast fault and operational capabilities and standard communication protocols such as a J1939 CAN interface.  Additionally, it will incorporate high-voltage interlock circuitry to enhance personnel safety.  Finally, it will meet all these requirements in an ARINC600 6MCU “Short” form factor or smaller package.
