Polartronix — SBIR Phase I award from Department of Defense.

Phase I SBIR feasibility signal

  • Phase I awards fund proof-of-concept work. For capture teams, they mark early interest from Department of Defense in a technical approach.
  • Watch for Phase II follow-ons from the same firm/topic family — that conversion path is where budgets and transition pressure rise.
  • Obligated amount $146,535. Cross-check similar awards in the same agency and technology tags for going-rate context.

Description

ABSTRACT: This proposal is to design an instrument that will detect and quantify volcanic ash hazards. A proof of concept model of the instrument will be constructed and tested. This instrument will measure overall density, particle size distribution and elemental composition. While the instrument in Phase 1 will not be certified to fly on a UAV, design elements will be incorporated for the goal of UAV integration in Phase 2. BENEFIT: This will benefit safety of air travel near volcanic hazards. Allow for reduced engine maintenance, and provide improvements to satellite based monitoring systems.
