Description
Alkemix Corporation is pleased to offer a recovery process of Boron Carbide (B4C) incapsulated within existing hard armor ballistic plates currently demilitarized by the DLA. Alkemix will focus on the continued baselining of the B4C recovery process employing current ceramic powder manufacturing techniques. Our process will include jaw crushing, ball-milling, contamination removal, and further particle size reduction to stockpile specifications stipulated by the DLA. The deliverable powder will then be processed to a powder particle size required by Government approved Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in the production of ballistic armor plates. The recovered B4C will be hot-pressed into ballistic panels and ballistically fired to determine acceptability to NIJ, Level IV protection specifications. Successful ballistic results may allow material reentry into existing supply chain feedstocks, resulting in a viable and sustainable domestically sourced raw material. Furthermore, Alkemix will isolate the other advance composite materials currently molded within the hard armor composite and reintroduce those materials back into other alternate value chains. The baselined process will allow further reclamation processes for other high-value, ceramic based raw materials such as Tungsten Carbide, Silicon Carbide, and Aluminum Carbide.
