Description
In Phase I, Exo-Atmospheric Technologies, LLC (EXO) and their research partner Purdue University (Purdue) will fabricate two additively manufactured (AM) throat inserts, optimized for thermal insulation and structural performance using Topology Optimization, that are to be filled and consolidated with a high temperature ceramic. The assembly will undergo a hot isostatic press (HIP) procedure at Exothermics Inc. to consolidate the ceramic while improving the mechanical properties of the AM structure. The throat insert will be hot-fired in EXO’s Reusable Motor System (RMS) which replaces a monolithic, metallic non-eroding throat insert simulating an solid divert and attitude control system. Purdue will install and hot-fire a second throat insert in their developmental liquid test engine to operate on high-performance green bi-propellants designed to replace liquid divert and attitude control system on future interceptors.
