Description
In support of the Army Research Office (ARO) dismounted soldier protections mission, Integrated Solutions for Systems (IS4S) and Auburn University (AU) have developed a soldier carriable Counter Small Unmanned Aerial System (C-sUAS) payload that utilizes High Power Microwave (HPM) technologies to defeat commercial UAS systems in flight. This payload generates a Megawatt class repetitive HPM pulse to disable a flying UAV by inducing component electrical failure causing it to lose control and generally fall out of the sky. This device could be used as a low conflict/low collateral weapon for single/swarm UAV engagement, including a variety of C-sUAS needs including site protection (FOB, public venues, etc.), police engagements, pre-emplaced disruption, and other personnel/site protections. The IS4S/AU device is currently a functional laboratory level device that has been demonstrated on the IS4S test range in realistic test environments against commercial UAVs, approximating a TRL 6 level device. The current prototype weighs 12 pounds induces defeat at more than 5 meters from the weapon. This program will reduce the size and weight of the device, while increasing the range of effects in a fully realized prototype. The results of the proposed research effort will be a fully functional prototype device that is capable of being launched to the target, inducing effects at more than 10 meters from the payload.
