Description

Abstract: Core Parts is a manufacturing and inspection innovation center and proposes to collaborate with Iowa State University (ISU) to develop an analytical methodology enable a common fatigue crack Probability of Detection (POD) estimation be applied to a group of turbine engine blades inspected with a given set of Sonic Infrared Inspection (SIR) parameters. By eliminating the need to test for POD with every different part, the innovation supports sustainment goals by allowing more parts to be reliably inspected with SIR. The proposed program will leverage the ISU-developed VibroSim model to predict the vibrations induced by the ultrasonic welder excitation of an SIR Inspection system, and to predict confidence intervals of the resulting crack heating for a POD prediction.
