Description

Using electric solid propellant, DSSP has developed a non-pyrotechnic small arms fire simulator that will be optimized, enlarged and enhanced for Army live fire training applications. First, the new proprietary waterproof non-pyrotechnic propellant will be further characterized for long term use and function in eSquibs and similar devices. The eSquib muzzle flash effect will be enhanced as new variant that produces lingering sparks, simulating bullet strikes on metal. Multiple eSquibs will also be clustered together into a single plug-and-play module that will provide users the option for simultaneous firing and/or longer periods between reloading and lower manufacturing cost. Pulse power supplies and control electronics will be designed and built to meet NEMA IP67 for Army field trials. eSquib scale up to 10-15 times larger will be evaluated as medium caliber gun fire simulation and as a non-pyrotechnic initiator. For the much larger battlefield effects and main gun fire simulation, we will baseline our low hazard, high-performance liquid monopropellant (GEM) and will develop a non-pyrotechnic ignition method. Prototypes of these small arms simulators will be delivered during this program for field testing. These devices will improve military training with more realistic simulations without the safety concerns that come with traditional pyrotechnics.
