CORCORAN ENGINEERING, INC. — Department of Defense SBIR Phase I: SOCOM173-001

CORCORAN ENGINEERING, INC. — SBIR Phase I award from Department of Defense.

Phase I SBIR feasibility signal

  • Phase I awards fund proof-of-concept work. For capture teams, they mark early interest from Department of Defense in a technical approach.
  • Watch for Phase II follow-ons from the same firm/topic family — that conversion path is where budgets and transition pressure rise.
  • Obligated amount $149,940. Cross-check similar awards in the same agency and technology tags for going-rate context.
  • Topic code SOCOM173-001 links this award to a solicitation family — search the same topic stem for incumbents and recompete timing.

Description

The goal of this project is to develop a power-scalable laser source suitable for laser designation of targets. The main thrust will focus on power scaling of individual laser elements using passive coherent beam combination technology.Scaling the output power of a single laser element beyond a few 100 mW presents a significant challenge as phenomena such as catastrophic optical damage or heat dissipation typically limit the maximum power that a laser diode can generate.Use of passive coherent beam combination allows circumventing such limitations and scale the output power by simply adding more single elements, while maintaining a diffraction-limited beam quality and the simplicity of laser diodes.
