Description
This Phase 2 SBIR program will result in a commercializable and clinically tested Prosthetic Smart Auto-Alignment Tool (ProSAT), which addresses the need to facilitate rapid, accurate, quantitative, and systematic diagnosis and adjustment of the physical alignment of a prosthesis. ProSAT is a novel approach to alignment challenges by creating a hybrid sensor and smart tool system that can adjust existing modular prostheses. We are further developing our successful Phase 1 proof of concept ProSAT by creating a commercializable form factor, integrating added diagnostic functionality, and designing a software mobile application for use in the clinic. ProSAT consists of two main modules: an embedded alignment diagnosis component and smart alignment algorithms to assist clinicians in adjustments. The ProSAT architecture will enable clinicians to perform efficient and consistent adjustments to achieve the prosthetic alignment position for optimal stable gait, and provide visualization and recording of ProSAT alignment adjustment data. We will conduct a clinical experiment to evaluate the redesigned ProSAT for alignment efficiency, accuracy, and user experience. Successful completion of ProSAT Phase 2 will result in a clinically useful auto-alignment diagnosis tool to help improve and maintain the quality of gait derived from prosthetic alignment.
