Description
As sensors on the battlefield increase at an exponential rate, the amount of information available to Commanders and Staff of Army Mission Command is, at best, overwhelming. New technologies are emerging, specifically in Augmented Reality (AR), that show great promise to not only helping manage and share information to the Commanders at all levels, but also effectively increase their Situational Awareness (SA) resulting in the capability to execute missions with higher success rates, lower loss of life, reduced time frames, less necessary resources/troops, and reduced fratricide/collateral damage. The ultimate endeavor will be to provide an all-encompassing display approach for mission commanders that gives them the perfect gods eye view of the battlefield, as was imagined in the movie Avatar.Creative Microsystems Corp (CMC) proposes to research and develop a task specific AR system based on the Army Mission Commands requirements. CMC is an expert at integrating AR based systems and is currently developing several advanced see-through wide field of view display systems. We will base our approach on a thorough research effort in the latest display, head/pose tracking, human computer interaction (HCI), haptic feedback, and other AR related technologies in regards to the specific requirements of the users.
