Description
In recent years, the military has put a great deal of effort into improving the realism and accuracy of simulation and mission rehearsal programs. Enhancing the realism and fidelity of simulations for complex terrain features and urban areas has become a priority. While high resolution satellite and aerial imagery is commonly available, high resolution digital elevation model (DEM) data is not commonly available. While lower resolution terrain is often adequate for representing the general shape of the surface, coastal and shoreline features are not represented in the low resolution terrain. The low resolution DEM data does not provide enough detail to accurately simulate the transition between ground and water. Our solution creates high resolution transition zones to create detailed coastal areas and shorelines suitable for simulation and mission rehearsal.
