Kaney Aerospace, Inc. — Department of Defense SBIR Phase I: DLA231-001

Description

Kaney Inc. (Kaney) proposes development of a SAR package and development plan for National Stock Number (NSN) 6110-01-073-3343, a Generator Rack for the C-130 platform. During Phase I, Kaney will utilize our in-house manufacturing and analysis capabilities to develop Kaney drawings and a manufacturing/qualification plan for this part. Kaney has extensive domain knowledge and capabilities related to this part. Through our research into the generator rack manufacturing/supply base, Kaney has concluded that suppliers of such parts are limited. This part was originally manufactured by the Barry Wright Corporation, now the Hutchinson Aerospace and Defense Corporation (who acquired Barry Wright in 2000). Kaney market research has indicated the DLA, USAF, and US Navy wish to increase stock volume due to the criticality of the component and platform.  The C130 and C130 based platforms (e.g. AC-130 gunship, HC-130 CSAR, C-130J etc.), are one of the most regularly flown military aircraft in the world, operated by the US Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Air National Guard, and may allies around the world. As such, meeting the sourcing needs for this component is a critical activity for the services.  Kaney’s planned approach for the program is summarized below: Procure a sample unit for measurement and inspection. Undertake non-destructive testing to validate performance requirements. Perform targeted risk-reduction testing; as well as gain access to rack to make measurements and obtain photo documentation to ensure proper reverse engineering (RE) and build-to-print (BTP) planning Kaney has also identified a source to obtain one of these parts (source and quote mentioned in the budget).
