Description
We propose to develop a flexible active phased array antenna for nanosatellite communications that is light weight and man-portable. The antenna uses low-cost commercial off-the-shelf components to cover at least two frequency bands in a single antenna. The antenna has a wide electronic scan coverage implemented using digital beamforming performed in a small computer connected to the antenna via fiber optics. The antenna can be set up as a planar array or stretched over a conformal surface for wide area coverage.
